J.A.M. Session —?Japanese Ondo Dance will be held Monday, June 17, at 7 p.m. at Ford Theatres, 2580 Cahuenga Blvd. East in Hollywood.
A great way to kick of the summer Obon festival season. Enjoy learning Japanese ondo dance, including the use of traditional fans, with Christine Inouye.
Music will be provided by Japanese folk fusion ensemble Minyo Station: Yu Ooka (guitar), Dane Matsumura (bass), Kimo Cornwell (keyboards), Kenny Elliott (drums), Matsutoyo Natsu (vocals/kane), Matsutoyo Zan (shamisen), Loryce Hashimoto (shamisen), Nana Kaneko (taiko), and Marisa Kosugi (vocals), plus Okinawan sanshin musicians Yuki Shingaki and Miwa Lyric and a special guest performance by Marva Smith.
Just come with an open mind and heart and learn something new or brush up on your dancing. Fans will be provided. The event is free and open to the public.
J.A.M. (Jazzed and Motivated) Sessions, presented by the Ford Theatre Foundation, provide an opportunity to explore movement, music and drumming. All ages and levels of experience are welcome.
