Tomiyo Tajiri, wayasashi expert and origami craft artist, recognizes from her experiences of being almost totally blind that touching and feeling something through your hands is the most important sense for happiness. Touch brings comfort and helps heal loneliness.
Gallery Mujo is hosting an exhibit of Tajiri’s soulful origami at its Little Tokyo location, 137 E. Third Street. The exhibit, which includes the op-portunity to chat with the artist, runs through Sunday. Gallery hours are 1 to 6 p.m.
Tajiri uses soft Japanese washi paper to construct a model of a gar-den she remembers at her childhood home in Okinawa.
