LOS ANGELES, CA (Jan. 27, 2025)— Kizuna, a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening the Japanese American community through cultural education and leadership development, is pleased to announce the appointment of Eric Komatsu as its new Board Chair and Nina Takenouchi as its new Vice Chair. This leadership transition reflects Kizuna’s unwavering commitment to cultivating leaders rooted in its mission to empower future generations.
Since 2015, Eric has been deeply involved in Kizuna’s programs, beginning as a
summer camp counselor, serving as a Leadership in Action instructor, and participating in the Nikkei Community Internship program. These experiences have shaped his understanding of Kizuna’s mission and its impact. “I am deeply honored to step into this role,” said Komatsu. “Having personally experienced the impact of Kizuna’s programs, I am passionate about ensuring future generations have the same opportunities to connect with their heritage and grow as leaders.”
Nina brings valuable insight as a parent whose son participated in Kizuna’s summer
camp. Her personal connection underscores the organization’s ability to inspire young participants and nurture leadership. “As a parent, I’ve seen firsthand how Kizuna’s programs create meaningful opportunities for growth and connection,” said Takenouchi. “I’m excited to help guide the organization’s work to benefit families and the broader community.”
Kizuna also expresses its heartfelt gratitude to outgoing Board Chair Bryce Ikemura for his instrumental leadership. Ikemura will remain on the Board in a transitional role to support the new leadership team. “It has been a privilege to serve as Board Chair,” said Ikemura. “I am excited to see Eric and Nina lead Kizuna into its next chapter and look forward to continuing to support its mission.”
“This transition reflects Kizuna’s strength as an organization deeply connected to its
community,” said Chris Fitzgerald, Executive Director. “We are fortunate to have leaders who embody our mission and values in all they do.”
