“Ruin Map” will be on view at the George J. Doizaki Gallery of the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center, 244 S. San Pedro St. in Little Tokyo, through Sept. 14.
JACCC Artistic Director Hirokazu Kosaka has elders draw their childhood communities, which are then made into woodcut prints that are displayed together, creating a giant terrain map of memories.
Opening reception will be held on Saturday, Aug. 23, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Gallery hours: Tuesday through Friday, 12 to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Closed Mondays and holidays.

Born in Japan, Kosaka came to Los Angeles in 1958. He has a BFA from the Chouinard Art Institute and a Master of Arts in Theology from Columbia University. He is an ordained Buddhist priest and a master of the Japanese art of archery. He has exhibited his artwork and created performances in galleries and museums and for festivals in Europe, Japan and in the Los Angeles region. He has received awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, The Brody Foundation, the J. Paul Getty Trust Fund and the California Arts Council. Recent exhibits include the installation “In the Mood” at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles.
